Celincordia, San Giovese di Romagna

(download)

Another Wine from Emilia Romagna.Sangiovese grapes from Celincordia winery.

Dark color. Small delta on the edges underlining a medium bodied wine, even if the waine is not aged. Visible heavy  tanning on the bottom. Redberry and Blueberry smell in the center, light vanilla in the top and walnut on the bottom of the glass. Medium bodied, round with short final taste. High pic of blueberry and plum, little and unbalanced flavor between alchool and suice (this could be wired since the high tanning percentage. probably due to warm but raining summer).

Masi Tumpagato (CORBEC -2008)

(download)

Masi Tumpagato is a blend wine, born from Corvino and Malbec needs hot dry weather. Masi Tumpagnato makes a great mix between the two grapes, the hard and rude Malbec gets sweetness and fruit flavors thanks to Corvino grapes.

The color is dark Rubin red, no orange on the edges, big delta on the glass. Since if the bottle is quite young the edge underlines a high alcohol degree. The smell is hard plumb, typical from Malbec grapes, violet and green flowers come in mind during the smell phase, brown land flavors point out old barriques. To the palate the taste is full body, round and graceful. The flavor’s pick is spicy and dry, the Corvino makes a great job to mitigate the hard spiciness of Malbec.

Perfect with Italian arrosto, Mexican food and Indian red/green curry.

Chianti Loggia del Sole

(download)

Chianti is originally from Tuscany. The Loggia del Sole is one of the best cheap Chianti ever.

Light dark color, no tanning looking wine. Pretty big delta on the edges of the glass. Deep and mature red turning on orange in the center of the glass. Tilting the glass a very brillant and lucent color appear behiend the glass. The smell is spicy, alchoolic on the top of the glass, red fruit and oak with vanilla sprites on the center and deep oak on the bottom. The taste is alchoolic not really balanced. Spicy on the pic, half bodied with a short  blackberries final.

Not a very challanging wine, easy to drink, nice with "spaghetti alla carbonara" or "spaghetti alla puttanesca", and perfect with grilled pork.

Rosso di Montalcino (Banfi)

(download)
Rosso di Montalcino is San Giovese from Tuscany (it is not a Chianti). Actually the origin of San Giovese grapes is in Emilia-Romagna between Cesena (FC) and Rimini (RN). Historically the city attributed to the origin of the grapes is Santarcangelo di Romagna (FC).

This Rosso di Montalcino (very different from Brunello, please don't confuse them) is from Banfi Castle. The color is rubin red with little touches of orange showing the almost 4 years old wine. Nice delta edge on the glass underlines a great balancing between alchool and suice, few tannin reserves a great slow first firmentation phase and attention the filtering phase. Rosso di Montalcino is different from other San Giovese wines, it is  finer  and more elaborated respect to classic San Giovese. It is more polite and much less rude. Smell is pretty spicy. On the center of the glas blackberries and purple fruits, on the bottom a little touch of choccolate and oak. The overall smell is really interesting since you can feel the complex of the wine, which raffinates strong San Giovese grapes. The taste is very aromatic, deep, round, firm and soft. Full body and extremely long final. Again erbal aromatic and oak falvors come on the end leaving a sadisfied palate.

Perfect with grid red meet or pasta with ragu or pork souce.

Camamuro: San Giovese Di Romagna (Superiore)

(download)

Camamuro present itself in a fine bottle. It has relief stemmas and great label design. The cork is made by black fine plastic like material.

The color is mature red. Observing the Camamuro in a white background it appears red purple. The color remembers a woody wine. Poor delta on the edges but great gradient on the center of the glass . Heavy tanning looking underlines the "Superiore" or (Superior). Heavy tanning looking wines could be made for:  aging (intentionally), too  fast squeezing process (involuntary), an overbosted first fermentation phase (voluntary), poor filtering techniques (involuntary) or sometime for particular grapes particular hot and dry summer. Oak smell in the center of the glass, vanilla on the top of the glass and little bit of smokey on the bottom of the glass. The taste is dry, and couch potato. Medium bodied, not balanced at all. On the bottle they claims 12,5% but on the taste you might feel 9 or 10% alcohol which makes a bad flavor on the pic of the flavor. Nice but short final. You might feel a resinous taste with a final of smoke. On my personal point of view the second fermentation barrel was not well sanitized, this is the classic flavor you might see if some wine (harmless) bacteria infect the wine.

San Maglorio (my wine isoldi).

Sangi-1
San Maglorio, Sangiovese grapes.

You will find this wine only in Romagna, an Italian region. The true and deep Romagna is placed somewhere in between Forli, Cesena, Ravenna and Rimini. Bertinoro is a small town placed in the deep Romagna, here and only here you can find the best Sangiovese grapes ever.

Brilliant dark color tending to dark violet, it remembers the Pinot Noir's  grape. Soft citrus smell, with a little bit of oak in the bottom of the glass. Probably wine maker added some oak chips during the first phase of fermentation. Full bodied round taste with some lemon flavors in the final. Not a very balanced wine after the bottle opening, too much alcohol. After 15 minutes it reaches the best balance. Short but strong final.

In Vino Veritas: Nero Di Predappio

(download)

Nero di Predappio is a great blend wine. It's a perfect mix between "Sangiovese Grosso" (the most famous Romagna's wine ... Romagna is an Italian Region) and "Refosco"  a Terrano's  (a different Italian Region) wine. It is an ancient round italian wine.

The color is strong dark red, like clotted blood. Oak barrels gave to it a cloudy ruby intense smell. In the center of the glass you can smell dried fruit, in the top of the glass is easy to distinguish light cherry and violet. Fresh, dry, but soft and round taste. Great pic and alcohol balance, long dry and oak final.

The final is tending to sweet, this suggests a good quality oak barriques. 14% alcohol.

Duca Montebello (Brunello Di Montalcino)

(download)

An amazing Italian wine. One of the most famous wine all over the world, the Brunello di Montalcino.

Deep color on the edges, just a little bit stronger then the aspected Brunello. Intense Sangiovese smells. Fruity taste, cherry, rose on the palate, fresh and deep full bodied. Undergrowth references on the back of the tongue. Firm and massive wine. Deep and long final. Definitely a good wine. The maple barrel has a strong influence of the fruity feelings by letting a great round and muffled taste. [14,33,48] Total 95

Massanera Chianti Classico

(download)

Spectacular Chianti Classico, The Massanera is and intense and sophisticated Italian wine. Perfect delta on the glass's edges, intense brillant dark color. Intense fruity and vanilla smell.  Raspberries and a little wonderful smooth round smell are the two keywords to describe the Massanera smell. Wonderful full bodied wine, firm with an awesome balance , really sophisticated and quite difficult to taste since the flavor is mixed and complex.  Little spicy on the pic of the toungue for few seconds. Amazing bodied impression with a long long delicate oak final. [ 13, 34, 49 ] Total 96

Personal Notes:

Even if 2007 is not one of the best Chianti's years this bottle was really good. Perfect with smoked barbecue. Smoked Ribs, smoked chicken lemon marinated and medium cooked spicy beef. And if you can, ends your dinner with a classic rich California salad.
